Learning and social transmission
People learn through families, peers, institutions, culture and media. The specific ASU model is not itself established by that broader evidence.
A proposed framework for examining how individual psychology, family influence, inherited priorities and changing social environments may interact across generations.
The proposed theory
Human development occurs within biological, psychological, social and historical environments. Families and social groups may develop enduring priorities, ambitions, fears, values, narratives and unresolved conflicts. These influences may be transmitted—deliberately or unintentionally—through upbringing, expectations, material circumstances, education, social networks and repeated behaviour.
The theory uses goal continuity as an analytical term for recurring direction or priority. It does not imply that every relative shares one conscious objective, that behaviour is genetically predetermined, or that family history overrides individual agency.
Each person interprets and responds to inherited influences under different conditions. Continuity may strengthen, alter or end through choice, separation, social mobility, new relationships, institutional change, technological change, adversity or deliberate rejection of earlier values.
At societal scale, many interacting personal and group trajectories may contribute to changing institutions, norms and collective priorities. This proposed relationship requires empirical testing and must be compared with simpler or better-supported explanations.
Stage II · conceptual extension
Stage II extends the original family-level proposal to ask how large-scale social structures and information environments may shape recurring patterns of attention, reasoning, threat response, aspiration and behaviour across generations.
Persistent uncertainty, competition, institutional control, unequal access, class or social separation, public messaging and technological change may affect what people learn to notice, value, fear or pursue. Those responses may then be culturally transmitted, modified or resisted.

How did wartime and later UK information environments interact with class, trust, authority and family-level transmission? This is a question, not a concluded historical claim.
AI extension
Artificial intelligence may become a major component of the environment in which people learn, reason, work and organise socially. Human–AI interaction may redistribute cognitive effort and create new pressures affecting attention, skill acquisition, judgement, verification, dependence and institutional power.
The near-term research question is cultural and behavioural: whether sustained interaction with AI changes learned cognitive strategies and how those strategies are transmitted. Claims about biological evolution require a much higher evidential threshold and a timescale extending far beyond present observations.
Working hypothesis
AI-rich environments may influence which human skills are practised, delegated, rewarded or neglected. This is testable through longitudinal and comparative research.
Speculative hypothesis
Very long-term AI-related selection pressures might eventually contribute to biological change, potentially including neurological or anatomical traits. No present evidence establishes that prediction, and no particular physical outcome should be inferred.
Research discipline
Define “goal”, “continuity”, “pressure”, “adaptation” and “transmission” as observable constructs rather than metaphors alone.
Compare the framework with social learning, cultural evolution, developmental psychology, behavioural genetics, socioeconomic persistence and institutional theory.
Specify findings that would weaken or falsify each proposition, including an absence of predicted continuity or stronger alternative explanations.
Account for siblings and communities exposed to similar conditions who develop substantially different beliefs, strategies and outcomes.
Use informed consent, data minimisation, privacy protection and independent ethical review where research involves people or sensitive records.
Do not infer heredity from correlation, intent from repeated outcomes, or biological evolution from short-term cultural change.

Phase 3 · controlled research programme
Phase 3 does not replace or restate the theory. It adds a controlled research route through ASU Labs: numbered propositions, defined competing explanations, evidence thresholds, disconfirmation criteria, a structured literature-review method and an explicit external-review status.
